We Are Moving On

Hello lovelies!  For the past few years I have been creating content for Artistically Me and though I have loved it, I’m no longer passionate about the topics I write.
My true passions lie with helping others who battle eating disorders.  As an anorexia survivor myself, I have lived through many trials and problems due to my disorder and I have finally learned a few things.
I love helping others.  I love volunteering and helping those in need and people who are suffering.  And girls who suffer form eating disorders have truly touched my heart recently and after many months of deep soul searching and talking with God, I have decided to change the content of my blog to better suit my mission.
Artistically Me is transforming into Our Sun is Rising.  OSIR will offer real life advice for those who suffer from eating disorders.  I found healing and peace with myself and my eating disorder through exercise and healthy eating and I want to share that mindset with others.
I will be writing articles on fitness, bodybuilding, healthy eating, body image, inspirational and motivational topics, and as always, travel and photography.  All of my social media accounts are the same but the usernames have changed (they will all be oursunisrising).  The only account that will no longer be used is my Youtube account since I cannot transfer the data in-between gmail accounts.  However, I will be updating much more frequently since I have a more specific niche and topic ideas.
I am so excited to begin this new chapter of my life and my blog!  I hope you will continue to engage with my and my project on social media and continue to visit Our Sun is Rising.
Thank you all so much for your support for the past 6 years and I hope to continue to bring amazing content to you!
PS: For the next few days or so, the website may look a bit wonky but I am actively working on it.  Some posts will be removed and reorganized.

Vegan Brownie in a Mug Recipe

Hello lovelies!!  Today is National Dessert Day, which is very important for me!  And if you’re like me, having a whole pan of brownies sitting in your house is way too tempting especially when all you want is to eat nice and healthy.  Anyways, I figured a mug brownie is fantastic because you can have a super yummy, gooey brownie but there’s only one.  Uno.  Une.  Good compromise.
Since I’m vegan, I obviously needed to cut out all milk and eggs from any brownie recipe.  Don’t worry, there are no flax eggs or weird egg replacements here!  I used coconut milk for this recipe because it’s so yummy and creamy but you can use any milk alternative.  Coconut sugar can be substituted for regular sugar if you wish but I like the healthier option of coconut.  The brown sugar helps give the brownie a richer, moister texture and taste so don’t sub that out.  Avocado oil can be substituted for any oil but give it a try!
So, here’s how you make a vegan brownie in a mug!
Vegan brownie in a mug ingredients
4 tablespoons of flour
2 tablespoons of coconut sugar
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of avocado oil
2 tablespoons of unsweetened coconut milk
2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of chocolate chips
1) Mix together the dry ingredients in a small bowl
2) Add in the oil, milk, and extract and mix thoroughly.
3) Stir in chocolate chips.
4) Lightly grease the inside of a large mug with oil and pour the batter in.
5) Microwave for 1-1:30 minutes (I did one minute and it was still pretty moist and gooey so start with that)

Tell me in the comments what dessert you’ll be enjoying today in honor of National Dessert Day!

The Ultimate Road trip Playlist

Hey lovelies! I hope you’re all having a fantastic summer. I’m currently on my yearly road trip and it’s so much fun! I left today and it’s already a blast.
Because music is an essential part of my life, I have to make a huge playlist every year for our road trip. It’s always an eclectic mix of old rock, new pop, and random indie music. Hope you enjoy!!

Let me know what your favorite songs are to listen to on long road trips! And follow me on Spotify to keep up with my playlists!

Eating Clean: the Benefits and why I’m transitioning

Eating Clean

My eating patterns have been…interesting. But I’ve literally never felt better in my entire life than when I eat clean, whole foods.

First, let me give you a little background. I’ve had troubles with my weight since I was little. I decided when I was seven that I was fat and needed to count calories. Keep in mind I was always scrawny and losing weight wasn’t a great idea.

I was thirteen when I was admitted into the eating disorder treatment center at Children’s Hospital. Even though it was one of the hardest decisions of my life, I’m so glad I did it. However, I’ve struggled with anorexia since then.

The past year, I decided, screw it. I have every right to eat what I want and weigh what I weigh. I don’t owe it to anyone to look like a Victoria’s Secret model. I’ll be honest, because of my love for running and soccer, I’ve stayed fit and in shape. However, I’m not eating healthy foods and I can tell.

Eating clean has so many benefits. Look I made a pretty graphic! (I’m pretty proud)

Benefits of eating clean

These are only a few of the benefits. It can help better your digestion, lose weight, and improve chronic diseases/other issues.

Eating whole foods is tough, I’ll be honest. I’m not one of those people who thinks eating healthy is super fun and makes me so happy. Actually, eventually I feel happier about it but in the beginning, I literally hate it. The thing with eating healthy is you need to ease yourself into it and keep at it. Not only are you creating better habits, you’re kicking old habits to the curb.

First thing you need to stop is eating so much sugar. Most of us are addicted to sugar. I didn’t think I was but I totally am. We drink soda, eat candy, and put liquid sugar (or solid, I don’t know) in our coffee/tea. Want to know a secret? Fruit is just as sweet and it’s so much better for you. I drink smoothies in the morning and it’s just so sweet and refreshing. Start by cutting out sodas and candy. Then quit adding brown sugar/white sugar to everything.

For a couple weeks I was starting to restrict again because I realized prom is in less than a month. But then I was like “Meghan. You’re being an idiot. Just eat better and start running again and you’ll be fine.” The funny thing about eating clean is your body will eventually even itself out (if that makes sense). By eating fresh, whole foods and exercising regularly, your body will begin to lose the fat its holding on to.

So, for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be trying to eat as many clean and whole foods as I can. However, I will allow myself I few cheat meals because otherwise I will go crazy and eat a pound of Skittles. I’m trying out a few recipes that work with my new lifestyle (because its a lifestyle NOT A DIET) and once I work out the kinks, I’ll share them!!

Anyone want to join me? We’ll support each other!
